My fascination with the English language developed early, mostly thanks to pop music and an exceptional English teacher in primary school. From the moment I began to learn it at school I knew I was going to study it at University one day. However, I had no wish to become a teacher. So when the time came, I chose courses like Contrastive Analysis and Translation Theory over The History of English and The Methodology of ELT. The life had other plans for me, though. I was hired to teach English in a secondary vocational school even before I graduated. When I look back at my early teaching days, I remember being completely clueless. I thought my job was to provide input i.e. to present, instruct and explain. In time, as I was looking for the best possible way to explain a grammar structure I realised that a number of them stuck in my mind when I examined the examples provided. Oddly enough, it took me some time before I let my students do the same.
